Removing questions (disconnect variables)
Creating New Sections
When a new dataset is imported, all of the questions will be included in a section named, 'General'.
To create new sections to organize the questions, select one or more questions that should be included in the new section and expand the menu located to the right of the questions.
Click the Create New Section From Selected option.
Enter a name for the new section that will be created.
(In this example, the new section name will be called 'Demographics')
Click OK to confirm.
A new section with the name (Demographics) assigned in the previous step is created and the selected questions have been moved into the new 'Demographics' section.
Moving Questions Into Sections
There are 2 ways to move questions into existing sections.
This can be done by:
Using the
Move To Section option
Select the question(s) to move, then expand the menu at the right of the question label.
Click on the Move To Section option.
All of the existing sections will be listed. Click on the section name and the question(s) will now appear in that selected section.
Changing the Order of Questions or Sections Manually
The order of questions or sections can be changed manually by selecting one or more items and dragging them to a new position in the list.
Manually moving both questions and sections at the same time is supported.
In this example, one of Q6 questions is out of order and is being moved so it'll appear with the other Q6 questions.
As the question or section is being moved, a line will appear as a guide/indicator to where the new position will be.
Notice the icons of the 3 rectangles.
They are all aligned, which indicates the question will be placed in the same hierarchy as the preceding question
(i.e. the position of the question that is being moved will be on the same level as the other questions).
Questions can also be nested.
In this example, if the question that is being moved is placed on top of another question, a hierarchy will be created and it will be placed beneath the question.
Notice the icons of the 2 rectangles.
The second rectangle is indented.
The 2nd language question is moved and placed beneath the 1st language question.
Renaming Question Labels
To rename a question label, select it and to the right, the Question Summary information will be displayed.
Edit the text in the Question Label field.
The changes will be reflected in the question label, listed on the left.
In this example, 'Q1.Propulsion Method' was changed to 'Fuel Type'.
Refer to the
Bulk Rename page for details on applying the same text label change to multiple questions at the same time.
Removing Questions
Most raw data files include some variables that do not need to be included in the final, completed dataset and used in Analyze.
Examples of such variables can include respondent information, survey collection flags, metadata, etc.
To remove questions from the completed dataset in Analyze, first select the questions.
After selecting the questions that should be removed, click the Disconnect Variables menu option, located at the bottom of the page.
The color and icon of the questions will change.
The green font color and question mark icon identify all questions that have been removed from the Analyze dataset.
Note: The 'Disconnect Variables' option does not delete or permanently remove the questions from the Analyze dataset or input data file.
The variables still remain in the input data file that was used for importing into Analyze.
Any questions that have been 'Disconnected' from the Analyze dataset can be added back into Analyze.
Select the 'disconnected' question(s) and click the Create Question button, located at the bottom of the page.
