In general, there are two basic data types for questions.
Typically, questions that are single response make up the majority of what is asked in a survey.
These types of questions allow for the respondent to provide one response (answer) per question asked.
Examples of category questions are:
-
-
-
Most Important Purchase Reason
By default, category questions will be displayed in Analyze as percentages, with each response of the category question shown.
Examples of numeric questions are:
-
-
-
# of problems experienced
By default, numeric questions will be displayed in Analyze as means.
Each response of the numeric question is not shown, instead a data value formatted a mean is displayed.
Editing Question Types
When importing a data file into Analyze with Data Import, processes are in place to best assign the question type.
Sometimes, the question type will need to be changed.
This can be done in the Edit Mode of Analyze.
After the dataset is opened in Analyze, expand the 3-dot menu.
Click on the Edit Questions & Sections option and select the dataset name to edit.
Select a question, then under the Question Summary, change the Question Type option in the drop-down menu.
Under the Question Type menu, the available options to select are Category or Numeric.
If a question is changed to Numeric, an additional option to define the Top-Box Behavior becomes available.
Refer to the Responses in Dataset to the right of the Question Summary to determine the structure of the question for setting the Top-Box behavior.
Use the First is Top setting if the highest rating is positioned first on the list.
Use the Last is Top setting if the lowest rating is positioned first on the list.
