Getting Started With An Initial File
Starting A Study Family & Importing An Initial File
Study families classify the individual datasets in Analyze.
For example, the 2019, 2018, 2017 ABC datasets are accessed by first selecting the 'ABC Survey' study family.
To import a new data file into Analyze that is not associated with any other existing datasets, an additional step of creating a new study family is required.
The new study family will be created during the process of importing the data file.
To begin the data import process into Analyze, go to Get Data and expand the Study Family menu.
At the bottom of the list, click on Create New Study Family.
The Create New Study Family window will appear.
-
Select the format of the data file
(Currently, only SPSS files can be imported, but support is planned for additional data formats.)
-
Click the
Select File button to specify the SPSS file (.SAV) file
-
Enter a name to assign as the Study Family
e.g. this is the name that the imported data will be organized under.
If a user wants to load the 2016 EU5 ABC dataset, they will first select the ‘ABC Survey’ option.
‘ABC Survey’ is the study family and ‘ABC Survey EU5 2016 FY’ is the dataset name.
-
After assigning a Study Family name, enter the Dataset name.
In this example, a new study family and dataset name were specified:
Study Family: Spaceship Buyer Study
Dataset Name: 2019 Spaceship Tracker
After the upload completes, a summary of the dataset conversion is displayed.
The upload summary window presents two options:
(Example screen after clicking Go To Edit Mode)
The dataset is opened in the Edit Mode window.
(Example screen after clicking Apply)
The dataset is opened in Analyze.
A new entry, 'Spaceship Buyer Study' will appear in the Study Family list.
The new dataset, '2019 Spaceship Tracker' will be listed under Available Sources.
