Selection Of Weighting Factor

Calculations in Halo Reports are always performed on weighted values. However, there may be many weighting factors available in one dataset, each of which might be assigned by default to particular questions. It is possible to change the weighting factor in a given calculation using the option "Weight variable," available in the Output style menu (see also Selecting an Output Style).

Automatic weight active/ not active

1. Automatic weight active/ not active
The "tick" next to "Automatic" indicates that Halo Reports will independently choose proper weight factors based on dataset defaults and the defaults assigned to questions that are being crossed in the query.

In this field it is possible to check which of the available weighting factors is the "Automatic" (default) one for the given calculation.

Available weights

3. Available weights
In this section, all available weighting factors for a given calculation are listed. You can choose one of them to change the weighting factor used in this calculation (a "tick" will then appear next to the weighting factor).

Please note also that all the weighting factors from the dataset are ordered. If n questions are used in a calculation with different weighting factors, W1,W2..,Wn, only one weighing factor is used in a calculation. If the "Automatic" weight is active, the weighting factor used is one with the highest rank according to the mentioned ordering (if the weighting factor used is changed using the "Weight variable" menu, the ordering is not relevant anymore). Please also note that the ordering of weighting factors is indicated by the way in which they are displayed in the "Weight variable" window - the higher the factor is on the list, the greater rank it has. In the example above (see point 3 on the screenshot), "Standard weight" has a higher rank than "Weight for migration."
