Users are now able to create customized slide descriptions in Compose by using the Expressions feature.
These expressions are automatically updated to reflect changes to the slide content.
Expressions are supported for use in the slide title and text fields within the body region of the slide, but not for footnotes.
After creating a visualization in Analyze, go to Compose and create a slide.
Note: This example is using EU5 data for the 2016 survey year.
By using Expressions, users can create dynamically linked text with connections to the data, so when changes to the data and slide occur, the linked text will automatically update.
· Click on the slide title text box and the Expressions tab [EXPR] will appear at the bottom.
· Clear the contents of the existing slide title (An optional step)
(Overall dealer satisfaction > Percentage by Market Category).
· Click the EXPR tab to open the Expressions Editor.
In this example, an expression is being created to display the name of the country that is currently being included in the slide.
· Country was previously setup as a Parameter in the Analyze query step, so under the Content menu, ParameterValue is added to the Expression Editor by double-clicking.
· After ParameterValue is included in the Editor, typing the @ key will display the available options, in the screenshot below, Make of new car or Country are available.
· Selecting Country will add it to the Editor.
· Close the expression by typing the “)” key.
· If the Expression is validated and the syntax is correct, the previous red warning message will turn to a green confirmation and the value will be displayed.
· This Expression will display EU5.
· Click Save to exit the Expression Editor.
The Expression will appear in an orange block.
Optional text can be typed before or after the Expression.
Click outside of the slide title region in the main body of the slide to exit the slide title edit mode.
The Expression text is now dynamically linked to the data.
If the country that feeds the slide is changed from EU5 to something else, the new country name will be updated automatically.
This example illustrates the slide title and added text field with Expressions.
Each of these fields outlined in red (for descriptive purposes) will automatically update if the following updates occur:
· Country (EU5)
· Brand (Superformance)
· Question used in Category panel of the Analyze query (Market category of new car)
· Brand (Superformance)
· Dataset year (2016)
