The Viewing mode is a new reporting mode that provides a view-only experience for reports made available to the user for viewing.
The user interface has been refreshed compared to Query and Compose, so at this stage, there may be a slightly different experience between those two modules, but the general capabilities should be familiar to Authoring (Query + Compose) users.
The Viewing mode can include two separate reporting sections.
If the underlying report has any non-empty pages created in the Compose, those will be visible as slide-type pages in the first section. If there are any pages in the report, this section will be the one opened by default.
It is also possible to have tabular pages presenting full results from the Query tabs, exposed in the Viewing mode. In this case, it is the report author’s decision which - if any - Tables should be visible for the Viewing mode users in that report.
It is possible to have any combination of content within the report - it can be only pages, only tables, or a combination of both.
Any connection/query setup in the background is not visible to the Viewing mode users - they can only browse ready-to-use pages as defined by the author.
The reports shared in the Viewing mode remain interactive in the sense that it is possible to use the available on-chart/on-table interactions (if relevant for the content included on the pages), as well as influence the page settings and parameter values to the extent as defined by the author. Since the reports are available in the view-only mode, it is impossible to save any changes made in order to make them visible to the same user by default on the next entry to the report. Users can at any time export the current state of the report they are viewing, but they cannot save the state for further reuse - anytime the report is opened again, the default state displayed will be the one defined by the author as the last saved version of the report.
The view-only mode does not allow to interfere with the report structure in any way. It is impossible to change the order of the pages, and remove or add new ones - these actions are only available for the authors in the Query/Compose environment and for the storybuilders in the Storybuilding mode.
