In Query, query calculations can be defined either in rows or in columns. The following view shows how to change the calculation area from rows to columns or inversely.
The choice you make has several consequences:
Output layout: having calculation in rows vs columns determines the place where statistics names will be shown in the spreadsheet
Calculation results:
If both axes (rows and columns) have categorical questions, then putting calculations in rows vs columns will not produce different numbers
However, if you want to use a numeric question, you must define calculations in the panel where you want the numeric question to be used.
This means that it is impossible to drop a numeric question in columns/rows in the case when calculations are defined in the opposite panel See Numeric Questions vs Place of Calculations
Change calculation position
Query allows you to perform calculations either for rows, or for columns. When you click on the calculation icon, a sigma letter will change place from rows to columns.
After clicking on the above icon, the variables in columns will be displayed in rows, while the variables that were previously in rows, will now move to columns. Read more in Transposing your Query.
