Applying a Subset to a Verbatim Question and Using as a Filter
It is possible to subset a verbatim question.
The subset feature is supported in any panel that verbatim questions are used, Rows, Columns, and Filters.
The subset options will differ for verbatims compared to the other question types.
Instead of applying a subset directly to an individual response like it’s done in a category question, words are entered as subset criteria.
Any verbatim responses that match the criteria will be included in the subset results.
After entering words in the fields to use as a subset, clicking the circular preview arrow will display the results without exiting the subset window.
Any of the words
The verbatim can contain all or some of the words typed in this field, as long as it matches at least one word.
Commas can also be used to separate the words.
All the words
Every word has to be in the verbatim for it to be included. The order does not matter.
Exact phrase
All words must be in the verbatim in that exact order for it to be included.
None the words
Only verbatims that do not have the words typed in this field will be included.
Whole words
This optional setting returns only verbatims with entire words that match what was typed as criteria.
If "appear" is typed and the 'whole words' option is checked, only verbatims that have that word "appear" will be included.
Verbatims that have words such as “appearance” will not be included.
Match case
Makes the words that are typed case sensitive.
Additional notes:
Within any of the fields, double-quotes ( “ ” ) can be used as a delimiter of a phrase.
If “appearance” is used with quotes, only verbatim responses that include just the word ‘appearance’ and no other words will be included.
