Defining Study Family Attributes

After a study family is created, additional dataset attributes can be defined.

As an optional step, dataset attributes can be created within study families to enable filtering when navigating and selecting datasets.
This will also activate the Dynamic option within the Selection Mode menu.
Using attributes is helpful when multiple datasets are included under a study family.

Options to edit the study family and dataset names are also available.

Expand the menu to the right of the study family field and select Edit Study Family.
The Edit Study Family window will open.

The Edit Study Family window supports:

Click the Add Attribute option at the bottom right corner above the 'OK' button to see the list of available options. You can select Custom attribute, Region or Period.

When you select Custom attribute, you will be able to define other required attributes, e.g, variants, data version.

Adding and defining new attribute filters is done in the Edit study family window.
Attributes will be available for use in the Connect tab in Halo Reports.
In this example, a new attribute named, 'Year' is being added.

After an attribute is created, the dataset definitions will need to be populated.
Each attribute for every dataset will need to be defined.
After clicking 'OK', the attributes appear as separate filter selectors on the Connect page and the dataset definitions appear as options in a drop-down menu.

Selecting options in the attribute menu will filter the datasets.

Dynamic Selection Mode

After attributes are defined, the Selection Mode menu will become active and the Dynamic option will be available.

Refer to the page on Dynamic Selection Of Datasets for additional information.

New Questions Created In Datasets

Any attributes that are defined in the study family will be included as additional questions in the datasets.

In the previous examples, Year and Wave were defined as attributes when editing the study family.
Those attributes will appear in the datasets as questions.
