In case your last action was creating a new connection, a newly opened tab uses this new connection. Otherwise, when you open a new tab, it uses the same connection as the previously active tab. However, it can be easily changed through the tab context menu.
Right-click on the tab and select "Switch data connection" to change data connection for an individual tab.
Select one of the existing data connections. Click "Use selected" to accept.
When it comes to results, the list of datasets included in the particular data connection is listed above the analysis results.
