Being deeply engaged in work and returning to a tab only to find that it has refreshed and your work is missing can be quite disruptive.
Browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge may automatically discard inactive tabs to save memory. While helpful for performance, it can upset your workflow.
Good news: You can stop this from happening. Both Chrome and Edge let you keep certain pages always active, so you never lose your progress. Here’s how.
How to Keep Pages Active in Google Chrome
Open Chrome.
Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, then select Settings (A).
On the left sidebar, click Performance (B).
Scroll to "Always keep these sites active" (C) and click Add. You have two ways to add sites:
Add current sites: Select from the list of open tabs.
Add sites manually: Enter mTab.com.
Click Add to confirm.
Done! Chrome won’t discard these tabs anymore.
How to Keep Pages Active in Microsoft Edge
Open Edge.
Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, then select Settings (A).
On the left sidebar, go to System and Performance (B).
Under Save resources with efficiency mode, find "Never put these sites to sleep" (C).
Click Add, type [*.]mTab.com, and hit Save.
That’s it - Edge will keep those pages running no matter what.
