When creating a new output style, the Main Statistic must be assigned to a format.
Assigning a Main Statistic is needed when data is converted from a Crosstab to another tab type (e.g., Crosstab to Frequency Analysis). Crosstabs are capable of displaying multiple statistical formats in the same spreadsheet results (mean, median, standard deviation, etc.). However, other tab types may only be capable of displaying a single statistical format. The Main Statistic is used to determine which statistical format is shown when only one is supported.
All existing default formats have been assigned a Main Statistic. Clicking on any of the existing formats will show a diamond indicator located to the right of the format. The diamond indicates the format has been designated as the Main Statistic.
When creating a new output style, Query attempts to assign the Main Statistic. If only one format is included in the new output style, that format will be assigned as the Main Statistic automatically and a gray diamond will appear to the right of the format description.
If more than one format is included in a new output style, the first format that is included is assigned by default as the Main Statistic. Continue to add other desired formats and click on the diamond indicator to specify a different format as the Main Statistic.
Finish building the new output style and save it.
The newly created output style will be listed under the User Styles section. A single gray diamond indicates which format within the new style has been assigned as the Main Statistic.
